Rare Maps of Hollywood Circa 1887 – Early 1900s

The region of the USA which we all call “southern California” was  first settled by Tongva (or Gabrieleos) and Chumash Native American tribes thousands of years ago. By 1542 explorers for the Spanish Empire had claimed the region we now call Los Angeles for Spain.

In this very rare early map of the “projected layout” of Hollywood city blocks one can see the lay of the land before the city was built. In 1910 the exploding city of Los Angeles annexed the young town called Hollywood. The rest is history. You can read more about the history of Hollywood and Los Angeles here:
